A visit can be terminated by the officer in charge of the visiting room if he/she feels there is an immediate danger or threat to the security and safety of the facility, staff, inmates, or inmates’ visitors. All other types of termination of visits that are already in progress shall be terminated by the shift supervisor.
The only person who can cancel an inmate's visit before it has begun is the assistant superintendent or a designee.
When the Facility Administrator or designee denies, suspends, or places restrictions on visiting privileges, the visitor shall be notified in writing of the reasons for such action unless the specification of the reason would jeopardize security interest or the safety of the individuals or the facility. The visitor may request a review of such action by writing the Sheriff/Facility Administrator. The Sheriff/Facility Administrator shall respond to all such request in writing, informing the visitor of the reasons for upholding, eliminating or modifying the original action.
The denied/excluded visitor may request a review and a reapplication to visit by writing the Sheriff/Facility Administrator or designee. The Sheriff/Facility Administrator or designee shall respond to all such request(s) in writing, informing the visitor of the reasons for upholding, eliminating or modifying the original action.
The Prison Rape Elimination Act, otherwise known as PREA, is a federal regulation. The regulation requires the elimination, reduction and prevention of sexual assault and rape in this facility.
The Hampshire Jail and House of Correction (HJHC) supports PREA by supporting a Zero Tolerance Policy for Sexual Assault/Abuse/Victimization and Harassment in its facilities.
This Zero-Tolerance Policy effects all of the HJHC, including every employee, contractor, volunteer, visitor and every person under correctional supervision. Report any assaults or victimizations that are sexual in nature to a staff member, in writing or call the Toll Free Hotline (413) 584-0591. Any reports will be kept as confidential as the circumstance allows.
